Which wireless networking cards work best with desktop PCs?

I have tried something called super G and also super G+, and neither one was strong enough to pick up the network. I can pick up the network on my notebook when I walk just outside my door, but it is gone for 2-3 weeks having the system board replaced (for the 3rd time).
