I want to share a broadband connection between 2 PCs (desktop and notebook)?

I am not sure if a Hub would work ? Do these connections work only to a particluar LAN card? (i.e. tied to that LAN card)
I am thinking of buying a hub, but need to be sure, before I spend the money.
