What is the best value PC (desktop) for upgrading?

Satanic Panic asked:

I have a GeForce (SLI capable) 7800 GT graphix card that I want to install. I am looking for a budget PC to upgrade. Most of the budget PCs have shared graphics crap… I am not sure what to look out for. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Try the Powerbook PowerSpec versions with XP installed. DO NOT GET ANY PC WITH VISTA.
    VISTA IS CRAP!

well if you had the time to learn about computers.

you can build your own computer for amazing prices.

For 800$ i went to a Evga 8800GTS KO/SCD A64×2 4800+ 2048MB DDR2 800. Asus m2n Sli deluxe and some other goodies. i did keep my older Enermax Noisetaker PSU all of my HDD’s and DVD/RW’s plus the case.

But if you buy really good things now like a Good case or a Good Power supply you save Cash later buy not needing to upgrade it in the future.

Integrated graphics is not a problem. It can be disabled.
It must have a PCI Express X16 slot to use the latest graphics cards.

Make sure the computer power supply can supply enough power for your video card. It should be rated 18 amps @12V for non SLI mode and 24 amps @12V in SLI mode. Many manufactures use proprietary pin configurations for their power supplies that can cause problems when you change power supplies.

Many manufactures cut corners with RAM speed. The computer may have a 800 or 1066 MHz buss but the ram is often 667 MHz or less.

Except for the processor, most of the time you can get a better upgrade for less by buying it yourself.

MGeForce 7800 GT: Minimum System Requirements

Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp Amps.)

Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)
