You need a router, mine is a westell with 4 ports and it came with my DSL.

all DSL routers that DSL service providers provide for free have at least 4 LAN cables!

get a router.. and if you want to get mucho computers on it.. which would not work that well on dsl, get a switch.. but all you need is a router.. it is ———serviceprovider——-modem-router–yourcomputers, – you cords :)

My mom’s a computer geek- she does this for a living- but she has something with an antenna on it to receive the wireless DSL on my PC. The old one I have lit up blue and was connected into the USB Port. I know that probably doesn’t help not knowing what those damn things are called but at least I tried. . :)

A router is correct. You gan get one off of ebay for about $25 if you look hard enough. 802.11b is all you need for surfing, but if you are going to share information between PC’s, like video or music, then I’d go with a 802.11g. Oh…and these are for wireless.

If you go the wired rout, talk to your service provider about switching your modem out for a modem/router. They charge you per month, like 3 to 5 bucks, so in the long run this isn’t as cheap.

Run down to Walmart and pickup a Linksys Network Everywhere NR041-wm Router and 2 ethernet patch (not crossover) cables. This will do everything you need for a basic LAN.

Add-on: You may want to try a hub instead of a router. I just noticed you have a Westel. The incorporate a DHCP router into some of there modems, allowing you to use a hub. As a matter of fact if it does incorporate a router into the modem you will need a hub instead or you ISP will have to talk you thru briging you modem to allow the addon router to work. I recommend buyig a hub and see if it works. If not package back and return it.
