Can laptops be built from scratch just like desktop PCs?

no, not yet, maybe if you have a factory and all the parts
and the newegg.com is not from scratch
not really…
you pretty much have to pick components that are designed to fit in the case that you have, I don’t know of any real forms, or standards in the laptop world…
if you are picking components ment to go in that case, then you can buy the exact computer that you are making from the factory, probably for less.
I just visited that newegg site, I didn’t see any laptop components, except for some mobile processors. That only does you good when you have a laptop that you want a better processor in, nowhere near what you would need to do a whole laptop project.
