if your board is an atx board then you can put a newer board in it. you bought all that stuff for nothing,. you could have had a system with an intel3.3gig processor, 160gig HDD 1gig of ram for what you paid for those 3 things. an eMachine. they are a great system for the price and can be upgraded with anything. oyea the system with an lcd display is only $500.

It depends. Most PC manufacturers have all of their parts customer tailored. There may be cabling in the case that will only work with an HP mainboard. It’s just a trial and error kind of thing. You should look inside the case and take a few measures. Also noting what cabling is involved.

The motherboard currently in your system is an Asus P4GV-LA, which is a micro-ATX form factor motherboard. Any motherboard also of that form factor should fit into your HP case just fine.
Although your motherboard currently has a Celeron processor in it, the socket 478 type is compatible with many Pentium 4s, including early Extreme Editions. These would provide a significant performance gain with your new hardware without the need (yet, at least) to swap your motherboard.
